My experience at SFSU has been teaching English 104/105 and English 114. The two main goals in these classes is to engage students and to support students. The curriculum gives students the opportunities to read actively and effectively while developing college level writing skills and the ability to think critically. The readings are typically related to a current social issue and are intended to engage students intellectually and to assist in generating writing topics. I would like to emphasize that this is a partnership in academic readiness and student success. Grades are determined with the use of a grading contract that is developed by the students and the instructor and mutually agreed upon. Student success is a priority in the first year writing experience course.
I am a native San Franciscan, and whenever possible I try to sprinkle some of the magic and mystery of The City into the curriculum. I am also a graduate of S.F. State University; I earned a BA in English and a master’s degree in both English and Education. As an alumnus of the university, I feel a deep connection to the school and its students, and regard every student’s success as my success and the school’s success.
