In my class, our goal is to look critically at who we are and our relationship to the world. We critique our inherited assumptions about a whole bunch of things, digging deeper into why we believe what we do. We do this fun and stimulating work through writing, reading, and critical thinking. My favorite type of moment in class is seeing that flash of understanding on students’ faces--the moment when they’ve been thinking hard about something and they reach a breakthrough of clarity that illuminates some aspect of their life.
I have been teaching at SFSU since 2017, and I received my MA in English from SFSU as well. My favorite part about living in SF is all of the access to nature and of course the wide variety of amazing food. Outside of teaching, I most enjoy spending my time surfing, playing music, and spending time with my fiance. I surf the most at chilly Ocean Beach, only a stone's throw from campus.
