Why Study English at SF State?

The Department of English consists of vibrant and interdisciplinary programs to study communicative practices of cultures and writers all over the world. We have a robust and talented faculty who engage with our undergraduate and graduate students and offer advising.

Our courses, whether on major literary authors or in fields such as Digital Humanities and World English(es), reflect our commitment to the study of English in global contexts.

Our student-centered classrooms offer opportunities to use multiple technologies, modalities, genres, and theoretical frameworks to read critically the word and the world around us, with an eye toward writing the future. We offer many resources for our students including scholarships, student organizations, publications and recent graduate testimonials, just to name a few.

Announcements

Every year, the Department of English releases a newsletter that highlights newsworthy items shared by our faculty, staff and students on the work they do in and outside of the classroom, as well as stories from our alumni sharing their experiences with us after graduation.
