Hi y’all! My name is Jesse Kapukui, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you :-) I also use he/him pronouns. As a first-generation student, I attended Santa Rosa Junior College before transferring to UC Santa Cruz, where I earned a BA in Literature with a Creative Writing emphasis. I’ve worked as a social justice practitioner across higher education as an AA/PI/SWANA Resource Center Worker, Peer Mentor, and Writing Tutor. Currently, I live in Sonoma County, and work as an Instructional Support Specialist at SRJC’s Roseland campus, where I support multilingual students enrolled in noncredit English classes.

It’s my honor to co-create a classroom with you that is grounded in collective care, where your lived experiences and ways of knowing are valued. I hope our course serves as a soft landing place where you feel grounded, and can slow down to build a community that sustains you here at SFSU. I’m eager to support you in exploring the nuances of your identities, naming the boundaries for your well being, and exploring your voice through critical reading and writing. Say hi at jkapukui@sfsu.edu. I’m excited to learn about your hopes for ENG 114 and support you in getting what you need from our time together.
